Dear Parents:
We are getting into flu and cold season. Please remember the following:
►If your child has a bad cough, Croup, runny nose, fever, stomach ache, vomiting, body aches, sinus infection, pink eye, ear infection, or other flu or cold symptoms, please do not bring him or her to class. In cases where an antibiotic is prescribed, your child must have started the antibiotic 24-36 hours before returning to class (medication of any kind can not be left in the cubby room). A good rule of thumb is that if your child couldn’t attend school or is dismissed early due to illness he or she can not attend class. If we feel that a child is too ill, or shows signs of illness, we will dismiss him or her from class to a parent or other attending adult. ►Please make sure your child is capable of thoroughly and frequently washing his or her hands with soap and warm water for at least 30 seconds. Parents please assist if needed. This should be done before, after, and during class (if the need arises due to reasons such as touching the mouth or nose area, sneezing, coughing, tissue use, etc.), as well as throughout the day. ►Please inform your child to cough or sneeze into his or her elbow, use a tissue, keep hands away from facial areas, and keep from touching other children. ►Please make sure any cuts, scrapes, skin conditions (ex: eczema), rashes, etc. are medically treated if needed and always covered when in the gym.

Also, for those who may not be aware, MRSA ( Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) has been found in the town of Burlington. MRSA is by no means a new virus. It was first discovered in 1961 in England; however it is a virus to be taken seriously. The best way to protect yourself and your children is cleanliness and good hygiene.
The below is an excerpt from an article in the Lowell Sun and www.kidshealth.org/teen (Wed. Oct. 24) on “Preventing staph infections”. Please contact your physician or town nurse with questions and for further information and prevention.
►Staphylococcus aureus bacteria are everywhere. Many healthy people carry staph bacteria without getting sick. ►Cleanliness and good hygiene are the best ways to protect yourself against getting staph (and other) infections. You can help prevent staph skin infections by washing your hands frequently and by bathing or showering daily. ►Keep areas of skin that have been injured-such as cuts, scrapes, eczema and rashes caused by allergic reactions or poison ivy-clean and covered, and use any antibiotic ointments or other treatments that your doctor suggests. If someone in your family has a staph infection, don’t share towels, sheets or clothing until the infection has been fully treated. ►If you develop a staph infection, you can prevent spreading it to other parts of your body by being careful not to touch the infected skin, keeping it covered whenever possible and using a towel only once when you clean the area ( wash the towel in hot water afterward or use disposable towels).

As always, we at Flip City Gymnastics, Inc. will continue doing our part with regular bleach and water solutions, as well as other disinfecting cleaning methods. However we do need cooperation from parents and children to prevent nasty germs from spreading.
Thank you for your cooperation, Flip City Gymnastics, Inc. |
